3-Tier Security Architecture

Guest menus, staff terminals, and manager analytics are separate trust zones — enforced in Postgres, not just in the UI.

  • Public guest menus with zero venue data exposure
  • PIN-gated staff terminals scoped to one station
  • Supabase Row Level Security on every manager query
  • Every read and mutation scoped by venue_id

Head to head

CafeOS vs. legacy hardware POS.

Architecture & security

Three trust tiers. Zero shared surfaces.

Guest phones, staff terminals, and manager dashboards are separate routes with separate credentials and separate database permissions. Nothing is protected by hiding a button.

Tier 1

Guest

Anonymous · no login

/v/{venue}/t/{table}

  • Read-only published menu for one venue
  • Cart scoped to a single table token
  • Stripe checkout, nothing else reachable

Denied · No staff data, no revenue, no menu editing

Tier 2

Staff Terminal

4-digit station PIN

/station/{venue}/{pos|kds}

  • Take orders and tender on the assigned station
  • Bump and recall kitchen tickets
  • Open and close table tabs for the active shift

Denied · No payouts, no analytics, no menu or pricing changes

Tier 3

Manager

Supabase Auth + Row Level Security

/dashboard/{venue}

  • Full sales analytics and shift reconciliation
  • Menu, pricing, table map, and station control
  • Staff PIN issuance and revocation

Denied · Still hard-scoped to venues this account owns

Zero-trust guarantees

  • Every query scoped by venue_id

Multi-tenancy is enforced at the query layer and again by Postgres policy. A leaked ID still returns nothing.

  • Row Level Security on every table

Manager reads and writes are gated by Supabase RLS, so the database refuses cross-venue access even if the app is wrong.

  • Stripe Connect direct charges

Card funds settle straight into the venue's own Stripe account. CafeOS never holds or pools your money.

  • Card data never touches our servers

Payment details are tokenised in the browser by Stripe Elements, keeping your PCI scope at SAQ-A.

  • Attributable audit trail

Every void, discount, refund, and price change is stamped with the staff PIN and station that performed it.

Social proof

Run by operators who left legacy POS behind.

Independent cafés, full service dining rooms, and multi-venue groups moving thousands of tickets a week on browser-based terminals.

We replaced two leased terminals with the iPads already sitting behind the counter. Saturday brunch used to break our old POS at 9am — CafeOS has not dropped a ticket since we switched.

FAQ

The questions operators ask on every call.

Hardware compatibility, printer support, PIN security, and multi-venue control — answered before you book.

Anything with a modern browser. Operators run the register on iPads (iPadOS 15+), Android tablets, Windows and Mac laptops, and cheap Chromeboxes wired to a kitchen monitor. There is no proprietary terminal to buy or lease, and no app store download for staff or guests.

Yes. CafeOS formats receipts for standard 58mm and 80mm ESC/POS thermal printers, including network-attached Epson and Star models, and triggers cash drawers wired through the printer's kick port. If you already print dockets today, you almost certainly do not need new hardware.

Each staff member gets a 4-digit PIN that unlocks one station type — a POS register or a kitchen display — for the current shift. PINs never expose analytics, payouts, or menu pricing, every action is stamped with the PIN and terminal that performed it, and managers can revoke a PIN instantly from the dashboard.

No. Tickets stream over Supabase Realtime, so a tendered order lands on the pass in well under a second without anyone touching the screen. If a kitchen tablet drops off Wi-Fi it reconnects and backfills any tickets it missed.

Yes. A single manager account can own many venues, each with its own menu, table map, station PINs, and Stripe account. Every query is scoped by venue, enforced again by Postgres Row Level Security, so venues can never read one another's data.

The register keeps taking orders against its local cache and queues them. When connectivity returns, queued tickets sync to the kitchen and the ledger in order, so you never lose a sale during a patchy service.

Card payments run through Stripe Connect as direct charges, which means funds settle straight into your own Stripe account on your own payout schedule. CafeOS never holds your money, and card details are tokenised in the browser so they never touch our servers.

Most single-site cafés are taking live orders the same day. You import or type your menu, print your table QR codes, issue staff PINs, and connect Stripe. There is no technician visit and no cabling appointment.
